Newcastle Herald Hill To Harbour

Starting from Empire Park just up the road from the famous Merewether Beach break, the event lines up on Memorial Drive just past the Cooks Hill Surf Club and runs straight up towards the Strzelecki lookout. It climbs for 1.8km and then levels out to heads down- hill, entering beautiful King Edward Park. Winding through the Park, the run to the middle entry where it heads down the old road into the Gardens and then down past the south Newcastle cliff and past the skate park then up to the intersection with Shortland Esplanade. At this point, due to the Light rail construction, we will run onto the footpaths for 400m and then rejoin the road north of Zarra St. (This is to allow residents to exit and enter the east end of Newcastle). The course then passes some classic Newcastle café’s, hotels and then past the historic Newcastle Ocean Baths. The course then approaches Nobby’s Beach (home of the Pasha Bulka for a while) turns right at the Nobby’s Surf Club House and towards the Macquarie Pier, better known as Nobby’s Break-wall. It is then an out and back run of 3km and back to the surf club for a stroll down the Wharf Rd passing Customs House, old Newcastle Rail Station, Harry’s Café D Wheels and the Queens Wharf complex. Turning right the course then heads into the Honeysuckle area for a out and back section to Worth Place right next to the Harbour and then returns to Market St Lawns opposite Queens Wharf and a great spectator crowd ready to bring you home. Newcastle Herald Hill to Harbour touches much of what Novocastians love about Newcastle. We hope you enjoy it.
